Mid-year 2017 Update

How time waits for no man... my progress so far…

Evaluation
No. 1: Mental and Spiritual Health
Meditate daily
I meditate about 2-3 times per week. Really enjoying this. But I think, going forward, I should make this a daily practice and should also try to set intentions for my meditation practice. Also thinking of starting a daily journalling habit. One step at a time… of course.

Practise yoga daily
I practise yoga about 3-4 times per week. Been mixing in more intense sessions – at least one intense session per week. Wish I have time for yoga every day.

Find meaning in life
Making some progress in this regard. Recently discovered the philosophy of epicureanism. Really resonates with me, and helps me not to fear God and death. Looking to further my knowledge in this regard.

No. 2: Physical Health
Get enough sleep (at least 7 hours a day)
Been getting around 7 hours of sleep per day. Ideally, I will have at least 8 hours of sleep. 

Eat healthily
Really proud in this regard. Been meal prepping – eating a lot healthier and saving a lot more money. Spending lunch time either meditating or exercising.

Still haven’t overcome fear of fasting. HAVE TO OVERCOME THIS BY END OF YEAR.

I am looking to transition into a lower-carb diet also and intermittent fasting...

Be active everyday
While I now do light lunchtime workouts, I really feel that I’ve not been exercising as much. By the time I get home from work, I’m spent and it takes too much willpower and time to exercise. Realistically, the most suitable and beneficial time for me to squeeze in workouts on weekdays is in the morning… but I can’t seem to wake up early enough to do it. Really got to figure out how to make this a habit!

No. 3: Relationships
Spend quality time with loved ones

No. 4: Career
Stay employed for most parts of the year
Really don’t know how I’m still employed… maybe being laid off will give me the much-needed kick in the bottom.

Find a higher-paying job with equally little stress and decent work-life balance
Non-actively looking. I should really step up my game, but truth is I really need to muster some motivation first. It really all does start with the mind.

Recently, I’ve been leaning towards gamifying my career. With my FU stash growing, I feel increasingly emboldened. The idea of approaching my career as a game, as a sandbox for testing out beliefs, as an improvisation theatre, sounds appealing and almost fun…  But I need to get my FU stash to a level where I can do so without fear of consequences…

No. 5: Finances
Invest at least S$30k in equities by year-end

Increase liquid networth (LNW) by S$60k by year-end
 On track (so long as I continue to be employed)
No. 6: Authenticity
Be more authentic (online and when interacting with others in real life)
 Pleased with baby steps taken so far. I have equated authenticity with courage, and I am slowly but surely inching towards not caring what people think. I’ve taken the view that life is too short for me to fritter precious life energy doing things I don’t want to do or spend time with people I don’t like.

E.g. When friends/colleagues invite me to their banquet weddings, baby showers and what-not, I just decline politely and I don’t even feel bad about it anymore.

Mid-March 2017 Update

Update No. 1 on 2017 Priorities, Systems and Goals

My progress so far…

No. 1: Mental and Spiritual Health
Meditate daily
I meditate about 2-3 times per week. Pretty happy with this but will be great to increase weekly frequency to 3-4 times. 

Practise yoga daily
I practise yoga about 3-4 times per week. Pretty happy with this, but hope to increase the intensity of my sessions (e.g. deeper stretches, more power movements)

Find meaning in life
(I feel that I should start thinking about and making peace with death... I suppose that would help with finding meaning in life?)

No. 2: Physical Health
Get enough sleep (at least 7 hours a day)

Eat healthily
Pretty happy with this. I have decreased lunch caloric intake by about half these past 2 months.

Really looking to try fasting, but the thought of it is mentally crippling. HOPE TO OVERCOME FEAR OF FASTING.

Be active everyday
I am active almost everyday. Reasonably happy with progress; hope to do more higher-intensity workouts.

Been on the lookout for new jobs. Turned down a couple of higher-paying offers (which also promise better career prospects) simply because they entailed longer working hours and more responsibilities.

Sometimes I think that I’m a joke. At 27, instead of climbing the career ladder, I’m already winding down (not even sure from what), hoping to semi-retire by 30. I really wish I can muster more career ambition… 

I’ve also been entertaining thoughts of going part-time/taking a lower-paying job so that I can qualify to buy a BTO flat (and hopefully also qualify for some grants, etc) with my partner… 

NEED TO SORT OUT WORK SITUATION THIS YEAR. NEED NEW PERSPECTIVE ON "CAREER/JOB".

Priorities, Systems and Goals for 2017

Priority No. 1: Mental and spiritual health:

- meditate daily

- practise yoga daily

- read up and practise stoicism


Priority No. 2: Physical health:

- get enough sleep (at least 7 hours a day)

- eat as much healthy food as I want

- be active everyday

- go for a suitable full-body health screening (any recommendations?)


Priority No. 3: Relationships with loved ones

- prioritise spending time and energy with loved ones above everything else except Priorities No. 1 and 2


Priority No. 4: Career

- stay employed for most parts of the year

- find a higher-paying job with equally little stress and decent work-life balance


Priority No. 5: Finances

- Save at least S$50k in cash

- Invest at least S$30k in equities

- Increase net worth by S$60k


Priority No. 6: EQ

- Be more authentic (online and when interacting with others in real life) (something I struggle with due to my many beliefs and thoughts which may be considered by others to be unconventional or even wrong; hence I tend to self-censor. Any tips?)
